People for Lok Satta (United States) leader Prakash Kapila on Tuesday demanded that the government look into the grievances of farmers of the backward Srikakulam district to prevent migration of people.
He conducted a survey of the condition of farmers last week along with Lok Satta State vice-president Panchadi Rambabu and party district president K. Poli Naidu.
The team also visited places including Itchapuram, Tekkali, Narasannapeta, Srikakulam and Etcherla. It observed that owing to lack of marketing and storage facility, farmers were selling their produce at throw-away prices to middle men. “People are denied basic amenities and governance,” Mr. Prakash said. He added that people’s rights were protected very well in US and Europe, and that they should be replicated in the State with utmost interest.
The team also met Srikakulam Collector Gaurav Uppal and urged him to resolve the pending problems of farmers and creation of infrastructure to get remunerative prices for their produce.
