Farmers unhappy over price offered

Even as the standing kharif crop is expected to give a good yield, paddy farmers from the rice rich East Godavari district are not happy with the price they are getting for their produce. The change in the government’s levy policy, absence of warehousing facility with rice millers and norms imposed by government-run paddy procurement centres are causing heavy losses to farmers. Despite delayed transplantation and Cyclone Hudhud, the district achieved a record yield of 10.2 lakh metric tonnes during the Kharif season, which is 40 per cent higher than the corresponding period last year.
